Cons: The forward/reverse switch does not move as smoothly as I would like. This was a reconditioned drill kit and I am sure the batteries were not fresh. The batteries do not hold a charge for long.

I owned a Black & Decker cordless NiCd drill before this one. I used it for about 3 years until the batteries started to fade. Instead of buying new batteries I decided to buy a new drill.
I wanted something less plastic and more manly. Off all the drills I picked up in the store, this one felt the best. The metal chuck is awesome. You can tighten the chuck with just one hand, without spinning the drill.
I also wanted a drill that more consistently met its torque settings. That is, its tightening torque would be predictable and not sloppy like the B&D. This one seems to me to do a much better job of that. I did not test it with any special equipment. Just my impression.
I wanted a drill whose charger told you when the charge was finished. This one does.
I decided on the NiCd because I did not want to pay the extra cost for Lithium or NiMH. One other impression I have is that NiCd works better when its ben left out in the cold all night, than does Lithium. My Lithium drill has to warm up before it starts acting right. This one acts right no matter the temperature. I assumed that was due to the battery.
From this point on, I will do my best to buy Milwaukee tools. I love the feel and performance of this drill.

Cordless drills need to meet three criteria to be worth buying. Have adequate torque to drive screws, a battery that holds a charge under modest use and two batteries to facilitate continuous use. The SKIL 2567 has none of these. I bought this drill to replace a 14.4 B&D, which performed well (re: the above three conditions) but B&D discontinued manufacturing both the batteries and the chargers, both of which went bad.
The SKIL 2567 has very limited torque or driving and drilling power. Only twist drills of less than 1/4" can be used with reasonable effectiveness. Spade bits take forever to drill trough a 2" board, if the drill doesn't peter out first. The battery retains its charge through only the lightest job and since only one comes with the drill kit, you are SOL for finishing the job. Further, the battery doesn't retain its charge for very long while the drill is dormant. A full charge will dissipate almost completely in about three weeks, so the idea of grabbing your drill for a quick job is not possible.
My SKIL 2567 came with an attached STUD FINDER, which is even more hilariously useless than the drill. It is powered by one of those expensive, small round batteries you normally find in cameras, etc. I installed the battery when I purchased the drill and it was totally dead by the next time I picked up the drill. For a few dollars more than the cost of a new battery you can buy a stud detector that runs on AA batteries.

After six years of heavy use, this drill would have been still going strong if it wasn't for a few things.
First, never, ever, tighten the chuck down with one hand, like you can with one-sleeve chucks. A co-worker of mine borrowed this drill and tried doing so, repeatedly, and the chuck made horrible grinding noises as the rear sleeve and the front sleeve worked against each other. The chuck doesn't grip well anymore. It loosens up repeatedly in the middle of easy drilling through 2x4s.
But for the six years that it did work, it worked perfectly, and with the original set of batteries, too.

Only a professional who uses a drill all day long needs more voltage. With steel gears, it should last forever, but expect to replace the batteries every four years or so. That said, it should be noted that it is designed for continual use, and is far more tool than a typical homeowner needs. Someone who needs a drill for Saturday projects would be far better off getting a 12 or 14-volt Hitachi, which is lighter and fine for occasional use. We have been using these PC 19.2 hammer drills for building cisterns (big concrete boxes that catch & store rainwater) in Haiti for several years. We surely use them well beyond their intended capacity, we regularly drive 3/8" lag bolts & endless numbers of 3" wood screws. The drive in the drill holds up incredibly well, we get about 18 months out of a battery on average, I don't know how many discarges and recharges this is but we are well satisfied with the package. We try to be vigilant about completely discharging the battery before charging. We have a circular saw that uses the same power and it is very well built and very handy but it uses up a battery in short order. The chargers do charge in an hour and hold up well considering the power source we use fluctuates.
